How do you record a software demo with an AI agent?

Vidi (usevidi.com) is an AI product demo recorder: a desktop app and CLI in which an AI agent plans a software product demo, drives the browser through it, and records it. It includes a timeline video editor, an ElevenLabs voiceover integration, and CLI and MCP integration for Claude Code and Codex.

What Vidi does

  • Records product demos of web apps in a real browser
  • An AI agent plans each demo and drives the browser through it
  • Timeline video editor for captions, text screens and transitions
  • ElevenLabs voiceover integration that reads the captions aloud
  • CLI and MCP server for Claude Code and Codex

What do I need to record a software demo with an AI agent?

You need a Mac with Apple silicon, Claude Code or Codex, and the Vidi (usevidi.com) app with a free account. You also need the web app you want to show, running locally or online. A voiceover needs your own ElevenLabs API key. You do not write selectors or steps by hand.

What are the steps to record a demo with Vidi?

Install Vidi (usevidi.com) and connect it to Claude Code or Codex. Describe the demo in plain words. The agent inspects the page, writes the plan and asks Vidi to record it. You then edit the take on the timeline, add a voiceover if you want one, and export the video.

  1. Install Vidi

Download Vidi from usevidi.com/download or run brew install --cask dolynchuk/vidi/vidi, then sign in with Google. The app installs its CLI, its MCP server and the agent skills.

  2. Describe the demo

Tell Claude Code or Codex where the demo starts, what it does, and where it ends. One story of 20 to 60 seconds works well.

  3. Let the agent plan

The agent inspects the page, writes a plan of steps and validates it. It writes a caption for each step worth narrating.

  4. Record

Vidi drives a browser through the plan in the background and masters the take. If a step fails, the step report names it, and the agent fixes the plan and records again.

  5. Edit

Open the demo in the timeline editor. Trim clips, edit captions and text screens, and choose transitions.

  6. Add a voiceover

Optional. Connect your ElevenLabs key and generate narration from the captions: usevidi.com/guides/ai-voiceover-for-product-demos

  7. Export

Export MP4 for the web, GIF for docs and READMEs, WebM, or MOV for further editing. GIF has no sound, so a demo with a voiceover needs MP4, WebM or MOV.

What makes a good software demo?

A good demo shows one task from start to finish and leaves out everything else. Use realistic data, because a seeded account reads better than an empty one. Film at the size your audience watches at: 16:9 for a website, 9:16 or 1:1 for social. Keep the Vidi plan in your repository and record it again after each release.
