How do I connect Vidi to Codex?

Vidi (usevidi.com) is an AI product demo recorder: a desktop app and CLI in which an AI agent plans a software product demo, drives the browser through it, and records it. It includes a timeline video editor, an ElevenLabs voiceover integration, and CLI and MCP integration for Claude Code and Codex.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon
  • The Vidi app, signed in with Google
  • The Codex CLI, signed in: brew install --cask codex, then codex login. Vidi also finds a Codex CLI bundled with Codex or ChatGPT

Steps

  1. Install Vidi

Get the app from usevidi.com/download, or with brew install --cask dolynchuk/vidi/vidi, and sign in with Google.

  2. Install the CLI

Vidi's Settings › Agents and tools view installs the vidi command at ~/.local/bin/vidi.

  3. Install the Codex skill

From the same view, add the Codex skill to ~/.codex/skills/vidi/SKILL.md. Codex reads it to learn how Vidi plans and records.

  4. Connect the MCP server

Install the Codex MCP connection, which runs codex mcp add vidi -- ~/.local/bin/vidi mcp.

  5. Restart Codex

Start a new Codex session so the skill and the server load. codex mcp get vidi confirms the connection.

  6. Ask for a demo

Describe it in a sentence, such as “Record a 30-second demo of the new search on http://localhost:3000.” Codex inspects the page, plans, records and checks the step report.

Set it up by hand

Once the vidi command exists, this connects Codex:

codex mcp add vidi -- ~/.local/bin/vidi mcp

Record from the app

Codex records through the Vidi skill and MCP tools. The Record button inside the Vidi app uses Claude Code instead.
